WHY ALLERGY TESTING?

Do you think that what you are eating is making you feel unwell?

Then perhaps food intolerance/allergy testing could help…..

According to the Royal College of Physicians, 1 in 3 people suffer from allergies at some point during their lives with food being one of the most common triggers.

People with food intolerances/allergies may show symptoms including:

  • Anxiety/Panic attacks
  • Arthritis
  • Asthma/Bronchitis
  • Candida (Thrush, Athletes foot etc.)
  • Catarrh/Sinusitis
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Constipation/Diarrhoea/IBS
  • Hayfever
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Stomach pain/Ulcers/Indigestion
  • Skin disorders (inc. eczema and psoriasis)
  • Weight problems

If you have any of these conditions then an allergy could be causing some or all of your symptoms. Avoiding the cause of your illness can bring partial or complete relief and a better feeling of control.

Your first appointment will include a full health and nutrition consultation to maximise the help and advice we can offer.

What are allergies?

The term allergy was first used nearly a hundred years ago and was used to describe an abnormal response by the body to something in the environment. In this context the environment therefore includes everything that we may come into physical contact with e.g the food we eat, the air we breathe, the lotions we put on our skin etc. The overreaction by the immune system to these normal substances (allergens) can be severe and most of the problems we deal with in allergy testing are not a true allergic reaction.

However, talk of allergies, food intolerances and chemical sensitivites do share the same basic fact - they are the result of the body responding abnormally to a normal environmental substance. As the signs of an intolerance are more subtle than a true allergic reaction, they are often undiagnosed, dismissed as being 'all in the mind' or at best put up with. Signs of intolerances can include the things that most of us complain of on a regular basis; tiredness, bloating, headaches, weight problems, skin conditions etc.

What is muscle testing?

Muscle testing is a safe, non-vasive and gentle method for determining whether or not a substance causes an adverse reaction in the body. Using the principles of kinesiology, a muscle should contract and hold the contracted position until the brain sends a signal for it to relax. When the body comes into contact with a substance that causes it problems then the signals are disturbed and the muscle can no longer respond as it should.

How many sessions will I need?

Most clients have between 1-4 sessions depending on how complex the complaint is and how many sensitivities they have.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Although small vials of purified substances are used for the testing procedure, it is helpful if you bring a sample of something that you suspect may be causing you problems. Any foods that you eat on a daily basis or find that you crave are also likely to be a problem so bring a small sample of these too. A food diary is also helpful as often people don't realise how little or how often they are eating a particular type of food - be honest!
