Bowen Therapy

What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy is a non-invasive, holistic therapy suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels, from new-borns to the elderly, from bodybuilders to the very frail. Mums-to-be find it beneficial at all stages of pregnancy, and sports clubs are now using it to enhance players' performance and help prevent sports injuries.

Your body has an amazing ability to self-heal and Bowen therapy works with this.  During your treatment, gentle rolling moves will be made over muscles, tendons and fascia at specific points on the body.  This sets up a dialogue between your body and brain, alerting it that something needs attention.  After sets of moves there will be a short break allowing you to relax and giving your brain the space it needs to assess what is happening, decide on a response and start a healing process.

What does it treat?

Bowen is a holistic therapy and aims to balance the whole person, not just the symptoms.  There are many advantages to this:

·         The source of the problem may not be where the pain is located.  Everything within the body is connected in some way. A pain in the back may originate from one or both legs for example. If we were to treat just the back, it might relieve the pain temporarily, but the source of the problem will be missed.

·         Secondary problems may also respond; if you have treatment to help relieve one thing, you might find improvement to something else as well which is completely unrelated.

Everything is included.  Bowen works on the Autonomic Nervous System and encourages changes to bring balance back to the whole body. As well as addressing  musculo-skeletal problems, it has helped people who have physiological conditions and/or emotional issues.
