Seated Acupressure Massage

WHAT IS SEATED ACUPRESSURE MASSAGE (SAM)?

SAM, or on-site massage, has its roots in the ancient oriental massage arts of Anma and Shiatsu. It is an energy therapy working on the meridians as in acupuncture, but without the use of needles. Instead, pressure techniques are used on the back, neck, shoulders, head, arms and hands to stimulate and balance the body and remove congestion.

The specific 20 minute "Kata" or sequence stimulates the circulatory, muscular, nervous, immune and lymphatic systems promoting the release of endorphins, leaving the client feeling relaxed, but energised and focused.

These reactions, plus the relatively short time that the massage takes, makes it an ideal, popular therapy for the workplace environment, where employees benefit from this quick, powerful, de-stressing therapy, returning to work energised, less tense and able to concentrate and cope better.

SAM is particularly useful for the treatment of repetitive strain injuries, backache, headache/migraine, sinus problems, eye strain, insomnia, anxiety and irritability.

What happens during a session of SAM?

At your first appointment, a full and detailed medical history will be taken and you will have the opportunity to ask your therapist any questions that you may have. The massage itself is quite different to other forms of massage - you will simply relax, fully clothed (no oils are used), on a special ergonomically-designed chair whilst the massage takes place.
