Sports Massage

Sports Massage

Massage has been used for athletes and warriors ever since such people existed! In ancient Greece and in Roman times, both athletes and gladiators were massaged before and after competition to help prepare and to recover from injury. Radiating neck pain

Sports massage has been a recognised form of massage since 1900 when the Finnish School of massage developed the first system. Sports massage gained professional recognition when an athlete at the 1924 Olympics one 5 golds in ONE day and credited sports massage for his success.

As science further pushes the boundaries of human performance, the benefits have filtered their way down so that every Sunday golfer and amateur footballer can improve their performance and recovery with the help of a suitably qualified sports massage therapist.

Can everyone benefit from seeing a sports massage therapist?

Although the name suggests that only "sporty" people should see a therapist for sports massage, anyone can seek advice and treatment where injury limits activity or if mobility is limited.

For those actively engaged in a sport, sports massage can help regardless of the level at which you compete.

What happens during a sports massage?

Your therapist will talk to you about your medical history and your reasons for seeking treatment. The therapist will need to know whether you are in ongoing training for an event, recovering from an event or attempting to rehabilitate an existing injury. The therapist will then be able to devise a programme most suitable for your body, your sport/level of activity and any problems that need to be addressed.
